This was an “environmentally-friendly” pilot project involving the Fort Monroe Department of Public Works, Centennial Contractors Enterprises, Inc. and AIM Services, Inc.  AIM was contracted to remove asbestos containing materials from throughout seven barracks (Buildings T-058, T-181, T-182, T-194, T-195, T-196, T-247). AIM then deconstructed the barracks. Approximately 80% of all building materials were salvage or recycled. Only 20% of the building was sent to a landfill.

AIM Services, Inc. has worked closely with Vanguard Contractors, and Air Force MACC Contractor, on 17 different renovation and hurricane restoration projects at Langley Air Force Base. Projects have included the complete gutting and renovation of interior finishes from administrative buildings, the renovation of aircraft hangars, and military housing.

This project involved the removal of approx. 2 miles of asbestos containing bituminous coating from four 10 to 16 inch diameter fuel lines at the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station, Cheatham Annex. The fuel lines were on the CAX Fuel Pier over the York River. Special provisions were needed to ensure that none of the material contaminated the York River. The site was visited by the EPA, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry while in progress to ensure compliance with environmental requirements.
